Fully subsidised hearing services and hearing aids for pensioners and veterans
Fully subsidised hearing services and hearing aids are available to eligible pensioners and veterans. The Australian Government’s Hearing Services Program provides for this.
Noosa Hearing is an accredited hearing clinic. So, we offer a comprehensive range of fully subsidised hearing services and devices for pensioners and veterans.
Who is eligible for subsidised hearing services?
You are eligible if you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, 26 years of age and over and you are:
- a Pensioner Concession Cardholder
- a Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Cardholder
- a Department of Veterans’ Affairs White Cardholder (hearing specific conditions)
- a dependent of a person in one of the above categories
- a member of the Australian Defence Force
Please note that a Seniors Health Card does not provide eligibility for the program.

What subsidised services are available to eligible clients?
- Fully subsidised comprehensive hearing assessment
- Fully subsidised hearing aids or assistive listening devices
- Partially Subsidised hearing aids or assistive listening devices
- Hearing aid maintenance for a small annual charge, which covers all batteries and repairs
- Regular hearing checks to monitor any changes in your hearing
What devices are available?
Through the program, if you have a hearing loss, you may be able to receive a subsidised hearing device. The device will be either a hearing aid or an assistive listening device (ALD).
Fully subsidised hearing aids
Free hearing aids is an option if a hearing assessment identifies you would benefit from a hearing device. So, we will offer you a fully subsidised hearing device. The program provides for a wide range of fully subsidised hearing devices, made by leading manufacturers. You are essentially provided with free hearing aids. Furthermore, they contain a range of beneficial features to help you manage the impact of your hearing loss.
Partially subsidised hearing aids
You may be given the option to purchase a partially subsidised hearing device, which may have more technological features to suit individual lifestyle choices. In this case, the program will contribute an amount equal to the amount that would have been paid for a fully subsidised hearing device. So, you are required to pay the additional amount quoted to you for the hearing device (i.e. the “gap”).
It is important to note that the program will not reimburse you for the additional cost of purchasing a partially subsidised hearing device.
Assistive listening devices
For people with hearing loss who do not want to wear hearing aids, or cannot manage them, there are also a number of fully subsidised Assistive Listening Devices available. These include devices to help you listen to the television, or hear better in one-on-one conversations. Noosa Hearing can help you decide if an ALD is suitable for you.
What costs will I need to pay?
The program provides subsidies for most services and devices. However, there are situations where you may be charged a fee.
Annual maintenance agreement (including batteries and device repairs)
Noosa Hearing offers you the option of entering into an annual maintenance agreement. This covers services, repairs and also batteries for your hearing device for one year. You can choose to take up the option of a maintenance agreement. We will also charge you a small fee to cover some costs.
If you choose not to have a maintenance agreement, you will need to pay for the batteries, and the servicing or repair of your hearing device yourself. So, these costs can quickly add up and could exceed the cost you would have paid for an annual maintenance agreement.
