What to expect at your hearing aid fitting appointment
Your hearing aid fitting takes about an hour. Since there can be a lot of information to absorb, it is helpful to bring a significant other along to the appointment. We will also provide you with information to take home that will help you remember the key points about how to use your hearing devices.
We’ll have your selected hearing aids that suit your lifestyle, budget and needs ready (having chosen it together at a previous appointment). Your hearing aids will be programmed to fit your specific hearing loss.
An evidence based clinical method
We take the time to adjust your hearing aids to suit your unique ears and hearing needs.
Fitting hearing aids is not a matter of putting them on and going out into the world. Every fitting is performed using the internationally recognized gold standard for fitting verification called real ear measurements. This is performed by placing a tiny microphone into your ear canal whilst the hearing aid is in your ear.
Measurement and calibration of this kind ensures that the hearing aids are fine-tuned for your ears specifically. Taking into consideration your ear’s own natural resonance. It is said that your ears are as unique as your fingerprints.
Successful hearing aid fittings balance three critical elements:
- selection of appropriate hearing aid style and technology,
- the patients’ willingness to accept change, and
- the clinicians’ ability to work with the patient to reach their hearing goals
The whole assessment and fitting process takes place over 3 appointments.

Your follow up appointment will ideally occur within 1 week of the fitting.
After Care
Included in your fitting is full support both over the counter and via telehealth. This support includes help cleaning and servicing your aids, advice on their use and management as well as support with Bluetooth connectivity and mobile apps designed for your hearing aids. We aim to support you every step of the way as you adjust to your hearing aids.
